That's several thousand dollars of upgrades, all professionally installed — most by Best Buy / Geek Squad Mobile Electronics — and every bit of it integrated to look and work like factory equipment. Nothing hacked in, nothing hanging under the dash, and the install paperwork to prove it. This car has features my friends' brand-new cars don't have.

And underneath all of it is an Acura that was bought Certified Pre-Owned in 2011 and dealer-serviced its entire life. Nearly 50 service and repair invoices, nine NYS inspection records, the original purchase contract and the CarFax from the day it was bought — close to 100 documents, and the whole file comes with the car.

The tech (this is the fun part)

Full HDMI input, with a Roku Streaming Stick included and already set up. This is the feature nobody expects and everybody ends up using. Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Max, Disney+, Prime Video — whatever you already subscribe to, signed into your own accounts, playing on the dash screen. Run it off your phone's hotspot and it works anywhere you have signal. It comes in handy more often than it sounds. Forty minutes early in the school pickup line. Waiting on an arrival at the airport cell lot. Killing a lunch break in the car instead of sitting in a food court. Kids melting down at a rest stop halfway through a road trip. Tailgating in a stadium lot with the pregame on. And because it's a standard HDMI port and not some locked-down proprietary system, the Roku is just what happens to be in it — plug in a Fire Stick, a Switch, a laptop, a game console, whatever you want. The port doesn't care.

Smart rearview mirror with front + rear cameras — records the road ahead and behind continuously any time the car is running, and doubles as a wide-angle digital rearview mirror. Best thing I've ever added to a car. If you've ever been in a he-said/she-said fender bender, you already know why.

Amazon Echo Auto, hardwired in — full Alexa voice control. Navigation, calls, music, smart home, all hands-free.
DroneMobile remote start + security + GPS (Firstech/Compustar 2-way) — includes a paid DroneMobile Premium subscription already active through 2/25/2027. Start it, lock it, unlock it, locate it, and track it from your phone from anywhere in the world. Three Two-way LED remotes included, so you get confirmation the car actually started.

Some speakers upgraded — new Kenwood and Kicker components added in the dash and doors, professionally installed with the correct harnesses and adapters (2022 and 2023). Not a full system replacement; the rest of the factory setup is intact.
Complete LED lighting conversion, professionally installed — headlights, high beams, fog lights, and the full interior. Far brighter and whiter than the factory bulbs, and it transforms how the car looks and drives at night.

Factory Technology Package — navigation with voice recognition, ELS premium audio, backup camera.

Everything above is integrated to look and work like factory equipment — CarPlay comes up on the factory screen, the mirror looks like a mirror, and it all plays nicely with the car's original systems. Nothing was hacked in or left hanging under the dash.

Read that timing belt line again. The belt, water pump, tensioner, and all drive belts were replaced by an Acura dealer at 261,825 miles in July 2021 — that's only about 33,000 miles ago. On a J35 interference engine, that is the single most expensive thing that can go wrong with this car, and it's already done and documented. The oil pump was replaced at the same time. Most 295K cars you'll look at cannot say either of those things.

About the transmission

If you know these cars, this is your first question. Here's the honest answer.

The transmission has never been rebuilt, replaced, or repaired — because it's never needed to be. Across 15 years and roughly 48 invoices there is no transmission work of any kind in this car's history, and not one complaint logged about slipping, harsh shifts, or flare.

What it does have is six documented automatic transmission fluid services — 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2020, and most recently at 287,086 miles in June 2023 — every single one performed with genuine Honda ATF DW-1 at an Acura dealer. No generic "universal" fluid, which is the thing that actually kills these transmissions. That maintenance history is the reason it's still shifting smoothly at 295,000 miles.

Brakes have been done five separate times over the years. Coolant flushed multiple times. Oil changes at Acura spec throughout, too many to list.

Who this car is perfect for

A new or young driver. This is the rare first car that's actually cool without being a bad idea. It's a big, heavy, stable sedan with a full airbag package and stability control, not some rusty two-door. But here's the part parents care about: the front and rear cameras record continuously, so if there's ever an accident or a dispute, there's footage. The DroneMobile app shows you where the car is at any moment. And because CarPlay and Alexa are built in, a young driver can handle navigation, calls, and music entirely by voice instead of holding a phone. It's a safer setup than most brand-new cars a teenager ends up with.

A college student. Cheap to buy, remote start from your phone for February mornings when the car's been sitting in a campus lot, GPS location so you can find it in a sea of identical parking, and a Roku for killing time between classes. You get heated leather seats and a sunroof for the price of a used Civic that has none of it. And if it picks up a door ding in a dorm lot, you shrug instead of crying.

A city commuter. This is the ideal city car precisely because it's not precious. Street park it, parallel park it, let it collect the scuffs and dings that city cars collect — it doesn't hurt, because you're not protecting a $30,000 investment. Meanwhile you still get a security system with remote start, GPS tracking, and cameras rolling front and rear the whole time it's running. It's comfortable in traffic, it's quiet on the highway, and the V6 has real passing power when you need to merge.

Anyone who wants luxury features without a car payment. Navigation, heated leather, sunroof, ELS audio, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, dash cams. Buy it outright, insure it cheap because of its age, and keep the $400 a month.

Someone who needs a second car or a winter car to keep the miles and road salt off something nicer. It's already been through fifteen New York winters and it's still passing inspection.

And honestly — anyone who just appreciates a well-kept car. Some people will see 295,000 miles and scroll past. Somebody else is going to read the service file, understand what a timing belt at 261K and six transmission fluid services actually mean, and realize this is a better-maintained car than most things on the lot with a third of the mileage.

Honest disclosures

I'd rather tell you now than have you find it in the driveway.

The A/C is weak — this is the car's main issue. It was recharged with UV leak-detection dye in 2021 and again in 2025, so there's a slow refrigerant leak somewhere. It's not blowing properly cold right now. There is already dye in the system, so any shop can pinpoint the leak quickly. Depending on what it turns out to be, figure anywhere from a couple hundred dollars for an o-ring or line seal. The price reflects this.

Cosmetically it's a well-kept 17-year-old car — normal wear for the age, not a show car.

Everything else works. It starts, runs, shifts smoothly, and cruises highway speeds without drama. That V6 is one of Honda's all-time great engines and this one isn't tired.
