Description
This 914-6 was purchased new and owned for a long time by a Warner-Bros executive in Southern California. He drove the car for many years until it eventually needed work and was parked in a garage where it stayed for decades. The original owner passed away in November 2006 and the owner's son inherited the car. Eventually the 914 found its way to Porsche specialist Wayne Baker, who thought the car's lack of rust might make it a good project for a client of his, Vista California dentist and amateur club racer Dr. George Braithwaite. George showed interest so the car was restored by California Porsche Restoration (CPR) in 2009-2011 under Brian Doherty's leadership using Glasurit paint in the factory-original Irish Green and with the factory period-correct undercoating. At that time a tan leather interior was also installed. George's attention took him elsewhere so I bought the car from CPR in 2013 where Wayne had it on consignment. The car was in sad shape when CPR got it. I have photos of the car when it was removed from storage in 2006-2007 as well as photos of the restoration process at CPR which I can share. Since the restoration, the car has always been kept in a climate-controlled garage and never driven in salty winter months. I also spoke with the original owner's son, who had fond memories of the car when he and his sister were growing up. He remembers it being a special car and his sister learned how to drive a manual transmission in it, but apparently fried the clutch (!) The owner had started to restore the car before passing away, and his son confirmed the condition of the car in the early photos which I shared with him. The odometer shows about 6k miles since the restoration in 2011, but the true mileage is unknown. In 2023-2024 a new motor with 2.7L displacement was built by Eric Dehoff with Mark Greco and Ron Barnaba at Barnaba Autosport in Batavia IL. This motor has a 3 year warranty against defects and workmanship. A new crankcase from Porsche Classic was used for this build. Details of the build can be provided. This 914 has '89 911 Carrera brakes, including working 911 parking brakes, along with a Tilton adjustable brake pressure regulator. Also to ease maintenance, an Albertronic 123 ignition is used (https://123ignition.com/) keeping a classic stock appearance while providing modern electronic ignition durability and ease of tuning. This 914 comes with Xpel paint protection film on the front and rear hood and front fenders, as well as Gyeon ceramic coating over the entire body. The tires are new 195/70VR14 Dunlop Sport Classic tires including the spare, with 2023 date codes, mounted on factory Fuchs wheels. Included is a stock 914-6 muffler and engine cover, while a Dankse Porsche-style sport exhaust and GT-style engine cover are currently installed. This 914 comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a factory toolkit, 2 sets of keys, an owner's manual and a custom-fitted car cover. This car is really amazing! Although it's a 55 year old Porsche it drives, steers and shifts like a brand new 914, and is sure to provide the new owner with a long life of classic Porsche motoring!
